Youngster Kamarai Swyer is keen to keep pushing for opportunities in the first team after scoring in West Ham's first pre-season match at National League Boreham Wood on Monday.
The Hammers won the match 4-1 with goals from Danny Ings, Swyer, Jarrod Bowen and Gideon Kodua.
"It’s not a bad way to start at all," 20-year-old midfielder Swyer told West Ham TV.
"You don’t often get many chances because we have some many talented players in the first-team squad, so when you do get an opportunity you have to try to take it.
"Pre-season has been good. We've been back for five or so days now and it’s been really good, but tough."
David Moyes' side will now step up pre-season preparations with a tour of Australia, where they will face Perth Glory and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
"I’m happy to be going and excited to be involved in the trip," Swyer added.
"I have to keep building, working on my game and keep doing the same things I’ve been doing recently and working hard."

'More people are backing the Sheikh Jassim bid of late'
Manchester United

The Stretford Paddock's Jay Motty discussing the battle between Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to own Manchester United on the latest episode of BBC Radio 5 Live's How to Buy a Football Club podcast: "From the conversations I've been having with fans it's sort of shifted.
"I think initially Sir Jim Ratcliffe was seen as a local lad come good, the romantic side of this story, cares about the club, is a United fan and is gonna do things the right way because he understands football.
"Now there's been these stories that one of the options of his bid will be to keep the Glazers on - albeit not in control but to keep some shares and still be at the club.
"You look at the Qatari bid, which some people were put off by because it looks like a state-backed bid, and that sounds a bit like sportswashing.
"But Sheikh Jassim is saying '100% of the club - no more Glazers, I'm gonna do this with the stadium, invest in the team, have a new training ground' and all the rest of it.
"Sir Jim Ratcliffe - it's not as clear what his actual intentions is.
"It's shifted now. There's still a divide but more people are backing the Sheikh Jassim bid of late than there were previously because of this idea that the Glazers are still gonna stay on under Sir Jim."
Mount set for Man Utd debut

BBC Sport
New signing Mason Mount has been named in the Manchester United squad for tomorrow's opening pre-season friendly against Leeds in Oslo.
Also included are Amad, who has returned from his impressive loan spell at Sunderland and first-teamers Jadon Sancho, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
As expected Dean Henderson is not fit enough to be involved, so Tom Heaton, Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar are the goalkeepers in Erik ten Hag's travelling party.

Players like Maddison 'not easy to come by' - Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou said players like James Maddison are "not easy to come by" and he is backing the midfielder to be a leader at Tottenham.
The 26-year-old will meet up with his Spurs team-mates on Wednesday when he officially begins pre-season preparations.
Speaking about his new recruit, Postecoglou said: "Really excited to get James as part of the group.
"Any manager will tell you that part of the key to being a dominant team is having multiple attacking threats and having a midfielder who can score and create goals.
"I thought it was a really good fit for us to look for a player like James - even better if we could get James... so we ended up getting James.
"I was really pleased and the fact we did it early was great because it allows him to have a break. He's had the birth of twins so I don't know what shape he'll be in when he gets here!
"He obviously knows a few of the lads and I think he's in a stage of his career where it feels like he can be a leader, which is great as well because we need players who want to embrace that responsibility within this group.
"Whether it's their first year in or they've been here for ages, we're going to need leadership on the field - and he feels like he can be a player who does that."

Crystal Palace unveil 2023-24 away kit
Crystal Palace

New Crystal Palace signing Jefferson Lerma has been modelling the club's away kit for the 2023-24 season.
The Eagles are set to debut the shirt, which will be paired with white shorts and white socks topped by a blue band, when they travel to Barnet for their first pre-season friendly tonight.
Palace say it "is an eye-catching amalgamation of the club’s history and its ever-popular sash design from the 1970s, with the main colours – sky blue and white - harking back to the club’s origins from 1861.
"The sash itself is printed with the words ‘Crystal Palace Football Club Founded 1861’, in recognition of the club’s pivotal role in developing modern football, as the oldest league club in existence still playing professional football."
PSG fear Mbappe backlash

Paris St-Germain believe Kylian Mbappe could face a hostile reception from the club's fans through next season unless he resolves his contract dispute.
At the weekend, the France forward said PSG were "a divisive team, a divisive club" in an interview with L'Equipe.
Mbappe, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, has told PSG he will not sign a new contract.
He says he will not leave this summer and instead will depart for free when his current deal expires next year.
PSG's club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said last week: "If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay - we want him to stay - he needs to sign a new contract.
"We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. That is impossible."

Best signings of the summer?
Alexis Mac Allister - Liverpool

With James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving Liverpool this summer, Jurgen Klopp wasted little time in starting to rebuild his midfield.
Alexis Mac Allister's £35m switch from Brighton to Liverpool was confirmed on 8 June.
The fee could eventually rise to £55m with add-ons but that seems a very fair price in the modern market for a World Cup winner.
Mac Allister started six of Argentina's seven games in Qatar, scoring one and assisting one.
He also enjoyed a fine season domestically in 2022-23 as he helped Brighton qualify for the Europa League for the first time in their history - scoring 10 and assiting two in the Premier League.
The midfielder netted 20 goals in 112 appearances for the Seagulls.
He was Brighton's leading scorer in the top flight last term and his ability to play in all positions across midfield, along with his game intelligence, were big factors in the Reds moving for the player.

Liverpool have signed Scotland defender Jenna Clark from Glasgow City on a two-year deal.
Clark, 21, spent five years at Glasgow City, winning four league titles and one Scottish Cup.
The centre-back made 137 appearances for her former club, scoring 28 goals and earning six senior appearances for Scotland.
"It's something I'll never take for granted, getting this opportunity," said Clark.
WSL: Villa sign Patten

Aston Villa have signed defender Anna Patten on a three-year deal following her departure from Arsenal.
Patten, 24, enjoyed two successful loan spells with Villa between January 2022 and June 2023.
The England defender made 33 appearances in all competitions for Villa during her loan spells, and is their third signing of the summer.
"She has already played a big part in our journey so far," said manager Carla Ward.
Best signings of the summer?
Sandro Tonali - Newcastle
Getty ImagesCopyright: Getty Images
It's no secret that Newcastle have plenty of cash to throw around - they've come a long way from 2020-21 when former owner Mike Ashley committed around £35m in overall funds to add five permanent signings to the squad.
With the Saudi-Arabian backed Public Investment Fund now financing the club and Champions League football on the horizon, Newcastle have signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for a reported £55m - making him the most expensive Italian footballer of all time.
Tonali made his professional debut aged 17 with Brescia in Serie B and he started 33 of their 36 games in 2018-19 as they won promotion to the top-flight.
He remained a firm fixture in the starting XI through the following the campaign but couldn't help Brescia to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
AC Milan had seen enough during that season, though, and signed Tonali on-loan with an option to by for 15m euros.
In three campaigns at the San Siro, Tonali lifted the Serie A title in 2021-22 and he was a key figure in helping the club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last term.
Newcastle made clear their intention to snap up the 14-time capped Italy international at the start of the summer and it wasn't long until he was pictured wearing the famous black and white at St James' Park.
Versatility and athleticism are two of the most crucial factors Eddie Howe is looking for in his summer signings, and Tonali certainly offers both.
Tonali can play both deep and more advanced in the middle of the park, meaning he will relieve the creative burden on Bruno Guimaraes at crucial times during the season.
You know what to do... hit the thumbs.
