Sesko sends telling three-word message as Edu makes Arsenal transfer vow (2024)

Arsenal will now look ahead to the summer transfer window following Premier League title heartbreak. The Gunners have already strengthened their squad significantly in recent trading periods and that will likely be the plan for Mikel Arteta and Edu yet again.

Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and David Raya all arrived at Emirates Stadium last summer with a striker signing on the agenda ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. foootball.london understands Arsenal are in the market for a dynamic centre-forward with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko the two names strongly linked.

On Saturday, Sesko was again in action as he scored a stunning goal for RB Leipzig in the 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. There is no guarantee Arsenal will sign an elite-level forward but Edu will undoubtedly try with the club's sporting director boldly discussing his transfer aims.

Plenty of chatter around Aaron Ramsdale's future remains along with links to the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Zubimendi, Jorrel Hato and Joshua Zirkzee. Here, football.london takes a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours before looking at them with a fresh perspective.

Edu makes transfer vow

Despite the window not opening for another month, Edu is undoubtedly making big moves with his latest comments suggesting as such. “Every season and every window we are striving," he told The Athletic. "We are always looking to add quality and improve the elements that were missing.

"When we started we signed a lot of different characters to build a good foundation. Then we brought in players like Gabriel Jesus and Alex Zinchenko to bring special impact. Then we started the next push which was needed with the new signings last summer.

“Also we have renewed 100 per cent of the players we wanted to renew. Players don’t want to leave anymore, which makes my life easier. We changed the dynamic. Players want to be at a place where they can challenge for big things. They love it.”

“As sporting director I love what I do and I want to do more. I want to be better. I have to think about next season and how we can do even better. Even if we do win this title, let’s go for more. I love what I do every single day when I sit in here, trying to improve and looking after the staff, talking to people."

football.london says: "Arsenal could not have anyone better than Edu in this position and that has become very clear. His strong bond with Mikel Arteta and the players is great and he has also developed a relationship with Josh Kroenke which will undoubtedly help the club in the transfer window.

"In comparison to last season, where it was very clear Declan Rice was the priority target, exactly who Arsenal are pushing hardest to sign is unclear, however what is known is that the Gunners will recruit again. There are some profit and sustainability concerns in north London but a number of first-team exits could help the club's financial situation."

Three-word Sesko message

Over the weekend, Sesko grabbed goal number 18 of the season with a sensational hit from distance. The Slovenia international is one striker target for Arsenal and with that finish it is clear to see why.

Only last summer did Sesko make the move from RB Salzburg to Germany with exit links to other European clubs arriving almost immediately following his transfer. The 20-year-old is said to have a release clause in his contract, that Leipzig are looking to extend, but the exact value of that is unknown with it hinted his price increases with more goals.

Following his goal, Sesko posted to Instagram: "Happy and thankful for my 18th goal in @rbleipzig [bullseye emoji]. Trust the process [chart increase emoji.]"

football.london says: "In his latest message, Sesko appears to be suggesting his stock is rising and that will undoubtedly be the case if he keeps on finding the back of the net. Arsenal are missing the type of striker who will sit between the posts and capitalise on the bundles off balls into the box.

"Kai Havertz has done brilliantly in the role and his work off the ball has been superb but the Gunners do not have a natural goal scorer. At only 20 as well, he perfectly fits the mould of player Arteta wants to sign and he is clearly focused on progressing and potentially soon making that step up."
